The first step towards school. In the light of the North Star.
What is it like to step into school for the first time? For a child, it is a new world – full of questions, movement, relationships, and discovery. For parents, it is an important moment when they want to know that their child has a solid foundation, direction, and support.

That is precisely why Little Researcher Day was created – a morning programme for future first-graders that allows children to get to know the school naturally, without stress, and at a pace that suits them.
Throughout the day, children are guided by Polárka (the North Star). A star that has helped people find their way for centuries, not to get lost, and to reach where they wish to go. In the same way, at Fostra Elementary, we help children find their bearings, gain confidence, and take the first step towards school learning.

During the morning, the children will become little researchers. They will discover, create, think, and collaborate. They will not face tests or exams – but rather meaningful activities in which they can show themselves just as they are.
Language games and working with stories
Creative activities and working with materials
Simple research tasks
Orientation within the school premises
Cooperation and collaborative creation
Every activity is designed to give the child a sense of success and safety.
Why is Little Researcher Day different?
At Fostra Elementary, we believe that children show their best when they are calm and feel accepted. Therefore, we monitor school readiness non-invasively, through play, movement, and ordinary activity – not through tests.
During the day, educators sensitively observe how the child:
communicates and responds to instructions,
thinks and solves simple situations,
cooperates with others,
orients themselves in a new environment.

Bilingual Environment
Teaching at Fostra Elementary takes place in a bilingual mode (Czech / English). The programme is therefore also suitable for children with a different mother tongue – the important thing is that the child understands at least one of these languages.
The bilingual environment is a natural part of the day, and children encounter it effortlessly in everyday situations.

To ensure the children feel as comfortable and safe as possible, they can bring their favourite toy with them to help them feel at home.
For Parents
Little Researcher Day is designed as an open and supportive day, during which children can naturally acquaint themselves with the school environment, the rhythm of the day, and the people who may guide them on their journey.
It is not about testing or assessment, but a calm, shared pause – a space for the child, the parents, and the school to get to know each other better.
After the programme concludes, we will offer you a summary of the day's proceedings and the opportunity for an individual consultation, in which we share our observations from the school environment. This information has a single goal: to complement your parental perspective and help find a path that will be good for your child in the long term.
Based on participation in the Trial School Day, we can also share with you whether the Fostra Elementary environment corresponds to the current needs of your child and how we perceive their readiness for entering school.
We offer Little Researcher Day to parents and children free of charge as part of an open introduction to the school.
We believe that a good start is built on understanding.
We are here as a partner for you and your child – at the beginning of an important life stage.
